To help you choose the right product, we’ve answered some of the most common questions our customers ask:
What are fixed downlights?
Fixed downlights direct light downwards in a focused beam. Unlike adjustable downlights, they can't be tilted or repositioned once installed. They're great for general or accent lighting and come in various styles, including fire-rated and IP65-rated options.
What is an IP rating, and why does it matter?
An IP (Ingress Protection) rating tells you how well protected a downlight is against dust and moisture. A higher IP rating means better protection. For instance, an IP20 rating is suitable for indoor use in dry areas, while an IP65 rating means it's dust-tight and protected against water jets, making it ideal for bathrooms or outdoors.
What's the difference between fire-rated and non-fire-rated downlights?
Fire-rated downlights are designed to prevent the spread of fire through ceilings. They have an intumescent seal that expands when exposed to heat, sealing the gap and maintaining the fire resistance of the ceiling. Non-fire-rated downlights don't have this feature and shouldn't be used where fire safety is a concern.
